Know the signs

When your brakes need attention

Catching brake problems early is always cheaper — and safer. Here is what to watch for.

Squealing or grinding

Worn pads exposing the metal backing plate — the most common first sign. Grinding means pad material is gone and rotor damage is starting.

Soft or spongy pedal

Usually air in the brake lines or low fluid. Can also indicate a failing master cylinder or a leak in the system.

Vibration under braking

Warped or unevenly worn rotors cause pulsing through the pedal or steering wheel, especially at highway speed.

Longer stopping distances

Worn pads, glazed rotors or old fluid all reduce braking efficiency. If the car takes noticeably longer to stop, get it checked.

Pulling to one side

A stuck caliper, uneven pad wear or a collapsed brake hose can cause the car to pull left or right when braking.

Brake warning light

Your car's computer is telling you something is wrong — low fluid, worn pads, or a system fault. Do not ignore it.

Tyre health

When your tyres need replacing

Tyres wear gradually, so problems are easy to miss. These are the signs that mean it is time.

Low tread depth

The legal minimum in Victoria is 1.5 mm. We measure across the full tread — if any section is close, it is time to replace.

Uneven wear

Wear on one edge usually means alignment is out. Centre wear means over-inflation. Both reduce grip and tyre life.

Cracking or bulging

Sidewall cracks (dry rot) or bulges indicate structural damage. The tyre can fail without warning — replace immediately.

Vibration at speed

Often a balance issue, but can also indicate a bent wheel, separated tyre belt, or suspension fault.

Brakes & tyres — questions

How do I know if my brakes need replacing?

Common signs are squealing or grinding, a soft or vibrating pedal, longer stopping distances, pulling to one side, or a brake warning light. If you notice any of these, book a brake inspection — catching it early is always cheaper.

When should tyres be replaced?

Replace tyres before tread reaches the legal minimum of 1.5 mm, or sooner if there is cracking, bulging or uneven wear. We measure and show you — no guesswork.

How long do brake pads last?

It depends on driving style, vehicle weight and conditions. Most front pads last 30,000–70,000 km. Rears usually last longer. We check pad thickness during every service.

Do you supply and fit tyres?

Yes — we supply and fit quality tyres, balance them, and can arrange a wheel alignment through our alignment partner if needed.

Can I just get my brakes inspected without committing to repairs?

Absolutely. We will inspect, measure and report back with a clear picture of what is going on. You decide what happens next.

What does a brake fluid flush do?

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point and reduces braking performance. A flush replaces the old fluid with fresh, restoring full stopping power. Most manufacturers recommend it every 2–3 years.

How much do brake pads cost to replace?

It depends on the vehicle and pad quality. Call us on 0424 156 703 or send your rego and we will give you a clear quote.
